Macro & Close-up Photography

I decided to share a few more of my photos with you this post. I’ve been taking so many photos I just have to show them off. So with not so much ado, here they are. Enjoy.

Canadian Photographer of the Month – Robin Hindle

OK, so I’m not a professional photographer but I have had many jobs taking photos for pay over the past 30 years. I mainly took photos of show suites and building sites for real estate developments and product photography for an electrical wholesaler to use in the catalogues that I designed. I also did a few weddings in my younger days of photography.

My passion though has always been close-up or macro photography. I had a 35mm camera with a few lenses including a nice macro lens, but it broke. I now have a new digital back for my old lenses and have started taking  photos again. So I thought I’d share with you some of the close-up/macro photos that I have taken lately. It’s been quite a while since using these lenses and I’m still learning  about the new body but I think these are some of my best photos.I hope you enjoy them.

Canadian Photographer of the Month

This month I am featuring Sophie Photo, a talented photographer in Victoria, BC. Well actually two people, Sophie and Rob. But for this post I will be talking about Sophie Lecavalier.
Sophie contacted me to do a remake on her logo. When I went to her site I really liked what I saw so I said yes to the logo remake and I enjoyed Sophie’s work so much that I decided I’d like to feature her on my blog this month.
Here is a small portion of her bio. You can see the rest on her site at http://sophiephoto.com/ .
Sophie has been passionate about photography for 20 years now and with the advent of the digital age this passion only increases each day.
Over the past 20 years she has taken courses, self-study and continually updated her skills. She has perfected her practical and technical abilities so her camera is an extension of herself. She can concentrate on the emotions and connections that make the difference between a good picture and a great one. She now offers that experience to your family or business.
One of Sophie’s latest passions in her photography is doing Glamour photo shoots. Although there are not very many in her portfolio yet, I can see already that she’s already doing a fantastic job.
Here are a few samples of Sophie’s photography. To see more please visit her website http://sophiephoto.com/ .

Photos in Photoshop

I thought I’d try something a little different with my post this time.Instead of featuring art, an artist, graphic design or a photographer I decided to show a photograph and the fun you have using Photoshop CS4.
This program comes with all sorts of amazing filters. You can have lots of fun playing with your photos. Your friends will look at them and say “how did you do that”? I have taken two photos of dried guava that I took using natural light from a window. I used several of these filters to show the different effects. In the first set  I singled out one guava slice and played with combining colour & BW and a few other effects . In the second set I used only the filter and nothing else.
I hope you enjoy what I’ve done here and maybe even try something yourself and let me know what kind of results you came up with.

Canadian Photographer of the Month…Ute Muller

This month I decided to feature a friend of mine here in Victoria. I have known Ute Muller for many years and have loved her photography since she began taking photographs. Ute mainly works with available light and uses it to perfection. The colours pop of the page and the extraordinary clarity is one of my favourite things about her work.  Here is a short bio.

Ute was born in a small town in Germany and moved to Canada when she was 24. She worked in several types of jobs but came into her own when she took up photography. After having her daughter, Ute took an online course with the New York Institute of Photography. She bought some photography gear from a man who shot weddings. They soon became friends and he offered her a chance to be his second shooter, and now a few years later she runs a small business called “fotoart photography” and her friend is now her second shooter.

Ute doesn’t only do weddings though, she also does family portraits. I don’t mean the kind where you have some painted backdrop and hot lighting everywhere, but very natural and beautiful photos out with nature or using the natural light from a nearby window. I find her photos to be imaginative and enchanting. It was very difficult for me to choose just a few photos, but I finally decided. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do. If you would like to see more of Ute’s photography visit her web site & blog. Be sure to check earlier posts as well, there many photos unrelated to weddings & family as well.
